The Best of Times… The Worst of Times

Time and time again, I find Charles Dicken’s well worn opening to A Tale of Two Cities, the most apt way to summarise my year(s); the best and the worst inextricably mixed in my days. Whilst I have switched to wrapping my year around my birthday, most recently as I consider Being All-In, I find year end usually comes with enough downtime for some reflection to be in order. It helps that it is usually only just under 6 months into whatever new focus I have for the year.

All-in has three over arching ideas, namely:

  • Getting down to a healthy weight, ~85kg or so: I have jumped on to the AG1 craze which seems (placebo?) to have resulted in some sleep improvements (if my Garmin watch is right). From a starting weight of ~1.7kg, I am now down at 103kg. Small steps but headed in the right direction I suppose
  • Getting clear with faith – resolving my on/off dalliance: Some progress here ( I have completed the membership class at a new church and looking to get more involved, the premise being to get stuck in for a year and see how things shake out. Next step is to get involved on a team and a life group and take it from there.
  • Living and working in another country: Work has been interesting, changes galore and all which has prompted a desire to go prodigal again. I have specific metrics for this from the perspective of flexibility (rotation) and income to replace. This is underpinned by a number of learning and development actions which are being progressed.

Some progress then but not entirely out of the woods!
