Quick Question…… Soulmates?

Got into a somewhat emotive discussion with someone today that indirectly led to this question.
Is there such a thing as a “Soulmate”? Or is “Love” simply the intersection of two stochastic loci? i.e. is there “The One” or its all a random thing…

  1. Nah mehn its not random o!Those that believe is random only believe so becuz they mite just be impatient or somewhat.Though "the one" doesnt necessarily mean he/she is perfect(I mean noone is perfect) but only means this is the person that will love u and still accomodate ur trash!lol….yes im a strong believer of "the one"

  2. stochastic loci hun?Well i think there is more than one person suitable for you.As for love- i'm not really sure. Some folks claim to fall out of love- my question then is- were they really in love in the first place? I dont believe love is an instant this for those that believe in love at 1st site. I reckon thats a load of bollocks.

  3. …Random? I dnt think so. "The One" isn't a particular person dat was created just for another person; I believe as Gee said, "The One" is dat imperfect person who is willing to accept your imperfections, assist you in becoming a better u,shares similar goals/visions, generally accepts u and ur baggage for u. (This feeling shd be mutual). As humans we have the ability n' capacity to love, when people fall out of love its not bcos they were never in love, I believe its bcos they were loving the wrong "One". I believe in love and "The One".

  4. To put it kindly.. It's a load of bullcrap.. hogwash.. what other polite words can I use?!Can't think of any scientific ones..There's no 'The One' but whoever you're with.. that you care about.. makes you happy.. becomes 'The OneYour end definition of The One would determine the means via which you get The One.

  5. The idea of a soulmate is lovely in theory, and I used to believe it long ago, but now I don't think so. I find some might take it too far and end relationships with great people because of some tiny thing that isn't "perfect" (because they think everything has to be perfect all the time with your soulmate), and this makes them think that this perfect person is still out there.I now think there is more than one person for you, and with the right person(s), you will see the person as they truly are, flaws and all, and love them despite of it (not that you specifically want someone who's messy, for example, but you won't find it as irritating as you normally would…at least not at first ;)) with the right person. Ok, that's a really simplistic example but hopefully you get what I mean.

  9. on this issue..i dont really think theres a soul mate or one person for everyone, i believe boy meets girl..boy likes girl and vice versa…boy n girl decide they really like eachother n deide to hook up and lov each other despite their eccentricities..pet peeves n all…love is the ability to c beyond all the imperfections and still b able to care abt the individual even whe he's bare n stripped of all…n bliv mi i dont think u just feel that kind of intensity on sight..i bliv its a mattter of choice at the end of the day…to love or not to love..

  11. Soul mates? I don't believe there is something like that. People seem to fall in love with any one who has all the characters they admire. and I am sure if you check the whole world, there would be over a hundred people who possess all the characters you admire in one package. So unless it is possible to have hundred soulmates…

  13. Peeps– Thanks for stopping by.. Just needed some validation of my views on the subject.. Cos they were very rigorously examined late yesterday!
@Geee – -yeah u were first! Guess your take then is that "the One" is the one you checks most of the boxes — not neccesarily every box?
@Tigress — Exactly my view on the subject — Only that some of the arguments seemed to suggest the opposite
@UnderCover07 — have to agree that there's no specific "one" but surely unless there was some over-arching teleguidiance its random aight?
@RocNaija — Ah.. couldn't have "belched" it better bro (apologies to Doug)
@Good Naija Girl — I agree completely.@Funms – the -rebirth – Awww… Surely you would have a unique twist to this conundrum? No probs anyways!
@Temite — Mhnnn — something to mull over here.. You attract the one — Overtly, covertly or both? I did go to church too — was excellent!
@Orland — Thx for stopping by.. Will head off to yours soon.
@WriteFreak — Well said — Seems to me that you are suggesting that people grow into becoming soulmates, rather than being default soulmates.. LOL @ me being a geek… I don't think so…..
@Farida — Guess so.. Important point you touched on here — the need for hard-nosed pragamtism in making it work…….
@Mimz — valid point — the decision at the end is to choose or not choose…
@Madam SSD — LOL @ pondering the imponderable… *Sighs* all these issues come from me talking to people who are way too intelligent for me! Thanks for rectifying the glitch in the software at yours..
@Have you any wool — ahaha — the statistical angle….. Couldn't have said it better meself!
@Dabizniz — LOL…. Not heard the razzle word in ages bro.. I must be rolling in the wrong circles! Valid point you make.. Thx
@soul child — While I may agree that its not random, i still think there are multiple personalities that could fill the role of the Soulmate.. not neccesarily just one person…..Valid point you raise tho about the intentionality part of the equation.. Thx for stopping by.

  14. I believe you can have multiple soulmates both romantic and non. I'm sure everyone has a friend or two that they feel that level of closeness, the brother/sister from another mother sydrome. As for in the romantic sense, well I do believe in soulmates, but how long that lasts and whether or not it's forever is strictly down to both parties not fate!

  16. @bumight — even u? surely there should be a medical/psychological reasoning to the whole argument?@DiaStar — Valid point.. Guess the issue is if there are multiple or singular 'soulmates' or if inded they are born by default or the traits are learned…..

  17. GNG I totally agree with you! A lot of people misconstrue what soulmates are all about. They tend to think that the one is someone who's perfect and will never do things once in a while to hurt them or piss them off. They say oh if you are the one you won't do such and such. Which is a load of bull. Then they go out there searching for her (the one that is perfect) only to realise when it is too that that she doesn't exist! I pray no-one out there makes this kind of mistake ever!

  19. I used to believe in there being a "soul mate" I don't anymore. The more I date, and the more I fall in and out of love, the less I believe.I think that we have the capacity to fall in love with a lot of different people. Just my take at "this" point in my life. It's possible that I'm completely wrong.

  20. @SexKitten — U're right i guess.. The more I think of it the more I get convinced that we all start believing in THE SOULMATE – no thanks to being weaned on snow white, cinderella and all the other mushy stuff where ppl meet and live hapily ever after – the truth tho is that every relationship involves hard work, time and the comkitment to dig deep and make it work — Soulmate or not!

  21. uhhhh, I always find a way to block this debate in my mind "soul mates" and "the one". Now, you are gonna make me do a drive by shooting on them…..I bet these words got their conception from our idea of "happily ever after". When you have someone who makes you get the mushy feelings, you probably assume they are the only one able to do that…..but, not necessarily true. You just happened to give the person the opportunity, or who knows, you were wacked on the head the day you met the person…..Is there anything like "the one"? probably, there is. is there anything like only one person being "the one", uhhh, maybe not. As for soul mates….i will have to think about that and i dont like thinking of soul mates.

  23. Love is all those small tiny things that makes you do together that makes love worth sharing..But to each is own, everyone has his or her soul mate at one point or the other. And we fall in love and fall out. Wondering why that one is not as we expected it to be.

  24. @naijagirl — LOL @ drive by shooting. Valid points you raise too.. My thots on these were articulated just above your comment..@Funms – the -rebirth — thx for coming back….. seems like the issue is the exclusivity of soulmates – one only ever or mutliple fits – Considering that there are only so important character traits it stands to reason from a statistical standpoint that from 3 billion-ish peeps there has to be more than one person who checks the important boxes@SpicyTee — You seem to agree with the definition of multi-fit soulmates, not neccesarily a born-that-way-only-one-for you version..kinda agree with that too!@Bibi — Someone who completes you as you complete them — cool…. exclusively or not?

  25. the One, huh? Well. I believe it, in a diff kind of way. I believe it cos i hav had a close enough brush with the feeling. One thing am convinced of is that you had better maary 'the One' or u'lll be sorry! let me tell u a lil story.met this guy at 17, young, clueless and inexperienced. he's 19, feeling like big boy. we meet and bam! the connection is lik nepa current wen it goes really high! there's no denying that there is a sthing btw us, though nottin is said by both of us. in retrspect, i dont think i knew he was supposed to sy anything, being with him was jus right, and vice versa. then, reality. there's a third party in the pic (not mine) and though she was not official, she was d pursuit b4 he met me. she gets uneasy abt me influence and places ultimatums (backed with guilt strings and all…) he leaves, in a bad way, and that's it!8 years later, we meet again. am older, wiser and engaged. once again, serendipity, unfufilled passions, watever! me and fiance break up (not eactly connected… really) and i wonder if this cld be it. it felt right, happened right, everything was perfect, excpt him. he had somhow gotten off the track i was used to and i cldnt place him. sure, he had the same everything else, but there wa jus that thing that was missing, u know how lik a train of bad choices can color u bad?? like dat. anyway, we try, but we cldnt make it. this time, it was stronger, harder, more fierce and much more pasionate than the first time. more articulation, more confessions, but we didnt make it. now am single. again. and that one experience has made me a believer. i blv in soulmates, cos i met one that cld hav been one. but i do not blv in one adam for an eve… cos there's still space for my adam in my heart. so, 'the One' exists. there is just more than one for each one phase, place and paradigm we are on. PS: lik i made obvious, my belief is not based on happily ever after, cos am still waiting on that. its more u hav to be able to say, this is the man i want my son lookin like, picking habits from, sharing dreams with, growing old with kinda thin. and while there is the practicable, logical part to it, there is also the part that u cant reason out. (think i shld stop now, while am still ahead! lol!)
